Eden Shields died this morning in Wanaka aged 60 after a lengthy illness -
lung cancer.
Some on this list will remember him from the early 70s in Dunedin. He
appears on a recording made at that time featuring various performers and
called "Live at the Tennessee Jug" - (was that the 12th Fret Club?) From
memory his track was *The Snake and Tic Market Report.* That was before my
time. Others may have known him in Nelson, Auckland and later at the
Wellington Folk Club where he and I performed a few times. At that time, I
recall, he owned an early Madill guitar with a serious'y scrolled head, in a
plush white case!
Eden is survived by his partner Eleanor Lloyd who nursed him to the end, his
two wonderful sons Eugene and Max (my sons), Eugene's lovely partner Cat and
fantastic granddaughter Isabella. Eden is also survived by his lovely
daughters, Elizabeth and Charlotte, sister Anne and, indeed, all the rest of
us who are lucky enough to still be living!
I know he wasn't keen on having a funeral but I have no further information
at this stage.
