Does anyone remember William Clauson?
Born in Sweden, his family moved to the States when he was 7. There he attended music schools and was very influenced by the folk song authority, Carl Sandberg. William toured NZ in 1957, singing popular folksongs of the time - John Henry, Sinner Man, The Frog and the Mouse etc. He was held in great esteem by the audiences of the time, even collecting a few songs from local songwriters such as Willow Macky, which set the scene for New Zealanders to start searching for their own folk song identity.
By way of a friend, we have received this message from Clausen's son, Patrick:-
"My father is turning 80 next year and he is dreaming about coming to New Zealand again to perform. I wonder if anyone would remember him? It would be fun to come and visit NZ!"
Is anyone willing to make him an offer?
Let me know - Hilary
