Exactly...that's what I remember.
The 'Benjamin' part I'm sure of.
As for the rest I heard it as 'bowmaneer' or 'bowmandear'
I've written it phonetically a I heard it but I know it's gibberish!  
But maybe it's clue enough and someone can sort me out.

    From the Auckland Folk Festival I have a snippet of memory of a song sung at the home brew session Saturday night.

    I've probably misheard the lyric and I only have a few notes of melody.

    From my scant ? inaccurate recollection, I'm wondering if anyone can identify the song.

    I seem to remember something about -
    'how goes the war, Benjamin bomedear'

    Google doesn't help me - can anyone assist or am I totally confused in memory!
