[Nz-folk] Microphones and stuff

There is an important difference between live performance and recordings in that the live performance is heard only at the time, whereas the recording will presumably be listened to over and over so that any faults, however tiny, become magnified and eventually extremely annoying. Also, of course, the performer in concert has sometimes immense visual impact and body language to amplify "presence" - a quality not easily achieved by recording with inferior mics.

However, I'm sure there will be some excellent headset mics, presumably priced in arms and legs if they're able to give you a sound comparable to a good stand-mounted large-diaphragm condenser microphone.

As always, the idea that "you get what you pay for" is largely a triumph of hope over experience - but you sure as hell pay for what you get!

How well would a headset mic work for a basic home recording set up?
  (SNIP!)
I assume if they are good enough for live performance - then they should be good enough for recording - or is there a catch?
