"I had a 12 string framus banjo many years ago . . so heavy I still walk
with a pronounced limp . . .sold it to someone who was no doubt into
weightlifting and music! hahahaha!"
It's the banjo pot that gives the 6 string banjo guitar that distinctive
banjo tone I'm after. Sadly, stringing a guitar with banjo strings and
tuning it as a banjo would only make a perfectly good guitar sound awful.
Yes banjo pots are bloody heavy. Maybe that's why banjo players are the way
they are
Hopefully I'll find out for myself if I ever find one of these bloody things
that I can afford. :-)

Ahem . . . .maybe if you had a spare guitar, Tony.. . . .restring and tune
it like a banjo?

"Banjo Guitar"
Thanks everyone for the helpful replies I got off list. Despite the smirks
from the serious banjo players, they gave me some useful tips. :)
I tried the one on Trademe but it hadn't been setup at all and was almost
unplayable. But I'd really like to try a working model before I risk buying
one.
Is there a working 6 string banjo anywhere in the Wellington region that I
might have a dabble on for half an hour?
Will give reward (a pint?).
Here's Bruce Springsteen playing one (no, really):
